Got writers block, help with short story plot?

Posted by admin on May 11th, 2010 and filed under story plot | 11 Comments »

I need help with a plot for a short story for my creative writing class. I’ve done stories on abused children, dying family members, and lost love- sappy stuff with a strong lead who makes the best out of his or her situation. I want something that would be fun to write but realistic. Any help is appreciated.

This happened this evening. You are welcome to use it. I was at the supermarket car park waiting for my wife when a man and a young pretty woman came to their car with shopping. She didn’t seem to know the car as she couldn’t open the doors without his help. When she had piled in the shopping he came to the passenger side and suddenly kissed her with a fair bit of passion. As he did he waved his free hand behind his back and a man nearby photographed the couple. She had her eyes closed and didn’t see the photographer who got into an old Landrover and followed them out.

You could try a first person narrative where the lead is someone who has lost his/her memory and finds themselves walking through the city doing an internal dialogue on what he/she sees, almost from a child’s point of view given their lack of personal reference to judge things on. You can use the imaginative wow, why, and confused of a child with some minor adult referencing from the lead’s instincts.

Wish i had a creative writing class or creative friends. Terribly lonely when it comes to my writing.

Well, journeys make good short stories for me. And in that journey you can explore background to characters. I’ll give you an example, see if it inspires you.

A man finds himself unable to escape his past. Time for him has stopped. He has never found a release to relieve himself of an accident that happened seven years prior. That is, until he comes to a stop on the M25 and he sees a girl. A girl that is so distantly familiar.

If you want to send some of your stuff, that’d be cool. – hellohelloah@yahoo.co.uk

There’s always magazines and newspapers to inspire creativity. A writers block is an A4 pad.

Writers block? go to google images and try entering "writing prompts’ and "creative writing prompts"
Did some one say terribyly lonely with writing? Try followiong some one around that is unemployed. I do not mean that as a joke or taunt, but job searching, especially in this economy, teaches you what is important, how to sell your self, and how to depend on your self.

If you want writing exercises try writing a story about the following; ‘The Letter,’ ‘The House On The Hill,’ ‘The Dream,’ and ‘The New Car.’ With just a little thought you can make all sorts of stories up with these everyday subjects and these are the sort of things that any creative writing class would set you as an exercise. Good luck with your writing.

What about a man who is taken hostage by two girls in his home. The girls are only teenagers but they are sick and twisted. They torture the man.

how about a girl discovering herself after visiting her hometown?
Or a fun story about someone who tries to live completely in the present with hilarious results? ie- vowing not to plan for a tranatlantic trip…
