Interview with Markus Zusak, author of The Book Thief

Its just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. . . .

Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusaks groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she cant resistbooks. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau.

This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.

you really should. it´s one of the best novels i´ve read in a while. and men, this almost collge boy has a lot of talent. this book is exceptional, it will make you cry in the end. the style is fresh but never slippy or “zeitgeist” in a bad meaning. it´s a wonderful and sad story: so true and so bitter. just readt – you will not be dissapointed!

Firstly, Harry Potter is a great book; its not just some teennage obsession thing. Secondly, you watch movies and read books to be enlightened, not to learn something new. Stick to how-to’s if you want to learn. I’m sure millions of people around the world of all ages find harry potter entertaining and memorable. The moves were though, but the books were good. I agree, TBT shouldve been made into a movie!

I was given this book for a reading assignment over 1 year ago never knowing who Markus Zusak was, but when i was done i was amazed! & Since then i’ve read The Book Thief over 20 times & it still hasn’t gotten old. Very Powerful book.
I personally think it should be made into a movie!

Theeeese types of books should be made into movies, instead of that Harry Potter whatnot (I’m not hating on harry potter), But what are you gonna learn from that? nothing.

It is my favorite, and to haloboy996, i doubt he is Jewish if his mother wasn’t taken when she lived in Germany. It is so well written and I can’t wait till he come out with another book.
