Jane Eyre. One of the best! Also Dr Zhivago. and, if you don’t mind a bit of sci fi, I would definitely recommend "Lightning" by Dean R Koontz.

Anything by Sarah Dessen. She writes for teens and all her stories are simple stories about pretty complex relationships. They’re all love stories, but they’re also all about dysfunctional or generally troubled families.

I would suggest that you read any of Nicholas Sparks books. He is an amazingly talented writer and writes great love stories often about a twisted fate. A Bend in the Road is especially good because there is kind of a murder mystery twist on it.
