How can I protect my rights to stories I write and read to friends who are studying media in college?

I have been writing stories that my friends and family really like and they like me to read them out loud to everyone. I do voice impersonations of all the characters, that are based on friends and family. I am looking for advice about how to protect the rights to my stories that I read out loud. Some of my friends work or study in the media field and are interested in collaborating with me on some projects involving my stories. Thanks in advance.

Am not very acknowledgeable in this field but I would recommend you to browse a more suitable category as your question does not fit the criteria of this section. It is neither a part of the comic or animation industry as far as the question informs me and it inquires the answerer’s input in copyright laws and the like, I would guarantee you a better response had you posted in a more suitable section. e.g Arts and Humanities (Literature is a sub-branch of humanities as far as I know) or Local Businesses (maybe?)

Good question. I wish I could help you on this issue, but I don’t see how I can. Now, if you want to protect the written part, you simply need to put a copy write symbol on the paper along with the date created (or edited) and your name.

For example, I was published in the PanHistoria Birthday Book a couple years ago and I made sure that the Pan Press included my original copyright date of February 2000 in their published version of my poem "Devotion to Andraste."
