I have to write a short story for school and I have a great idea which would work best as a diary entry. Is it ok to write a short story like that? Would it only be able to be one entry or multiple? Please tell me anything you know about this!
Yes; that is very creative. Many authors employ that style in their works.
Can a short story be written as a diary entry?
How to write a short story showing my identity and beliefs?
I want to write a short novel which contains an underlying message of my beliefs in society. Example, animal farm shows the authors identity by showing that he doesn’t believe Marxism will work in society. What belief could I use in a short story ?
Thanksssss
Figure out your beliefs or opinions on particular issues, for instance, politics, abortion, immigration… whatever you want. Build a story around it, for instance, a young woman dealing with teen pregnancy, and the plot or the content could reflect that. The story itself could show some insight or meaningful exploration of the issue.
Remember, the reader should arrive at a stand and not be told what to believe.
What short story features an underground civilisation that turn out to be smart rats in a basement?
They fight battles and are invaded by a giant – a small boy – and one brave animal makes it to the surface, but is blinded by the light? Definitely a short story, probably from the late 1970s or early 1980s? Science fiction / fantasy genre.
Sounds like Rats of NIMH but that was a full length book.
Short story question: How do you connect readers to your characters in a short amount of time?
I’m writing a short story that deals with a kid’s friend dying. It needs to be under 20 pages. Does anyone have any tips on how to make readers care about your characters in such a short amount of time? In novels, you have four hundred plus pages to develop your characters and make them sympathetic or whatnot. I find it hard with short stories.
Thanks.
Sorry for the 2nd person tense…I meant "how do I" specifically.
For me, a short story is like a power-punch; a lot of bang in one little package. The reader needs to care about the character by the end of the first paragraph, not the first chapter. I accomplish this (I hope) by starting the story right off showing what’s wrong with my character. Or, if there’s nothing wrong with them, I start off with a conflict, showing what kind of person they are while simultaneously, forcing them to make a decision that matters to the story as a whole.
It is harder with short stories than with novels. For me, at least, and I guess you too. Just make sure that you give the character a flaw or two, and you have to get the conflict right in there. You have twenty pages, so that should leave room for some good setting (which can also add to the character – what does he see?) and still have time to get the whole story in.
=) Good luck!
What is a short story request that you would like to be filled out?
I want to write a short story, but I have writer’s block. Does anyone have a request? I mostly write fantasy, teen fiction, romance, action/adventure, supernatural, and I am open to gay/lesbian. I will pick the one I like best and write that. I’ll give you the link to the site that’s it’s on when I’m done. All requests are helpful and I thank you for them and you time. Please no spam, and have a nice day. ![]()
I want some one to write something new, here is three plot ideas I’ve been toying with in my head for a while:
Plot 1: Write a comedy about a straight guy who has a gay harem.
Plot 2: A story about a voodoo witch, her preserved corpse of an undead husband, and the zombie apocalypse.
Plot 3: A retelling of Beauty and the Beast with more horror elements than romance.
If you choose any of my ideas, please sent me the short story to read!
What is standard formatting for a short story?
I am writing a short story for my university’s student publication, but I’m confused by the length requirements. They call for manuscripts of 4 to 5 pages, but don’t give formatting preferences or word counts. I’m thinking I should use 12 pt Times New Roman, double spaced, 1 inch margins.
Go for 2000-4000 words, and with a short story you generally skip the beginning and jump right to the middle. There isn’t enough time for a beginning most of the time, so you go right into what you’re writing about. Of course, open it nicely.
Good luck!
What is the short story where a girl runs away and when she finally returns, her family doesn’t recognize her?
Back a few years ago I read this one short story where a girl runs away from her family. After a while she returns but finds her family doesn’t recognize her because her family really never got to understand her or even get to know her. And also because other girls have come back pretending to be her.
If anyone could tell me what story this is, that would be wonderful!
The Lindsay Lohan Story.
: )
How to format short story that jumps from past to present in storyline?
In a short story I’m writing, I jump from present time to past in the storyline. Is it fine that I separate these events with stars ( *** ) between paragraphs or is there another way to do this?
In the past, I have used the asterisks/stars, but another option is saying something like "on another track" or something similar to that. I always thought that was an interesting way to connect different parts of a story.
What is a published short story about heaven/love that is by an american author?
I’m doing a project over heaven and the moments in life that make you feel like heaven and i need a short story that has been published and is by an american author!
Um, this isn’t a short story but it’s not really that long either 90 minutes in heaven. It’s the only heaven book thing that I know of. Sorry i couldn’t help more:(
How can I properly plan out a short story?
I just recently asked a question concerning my writer’s block, and someone gave me the very advantageous advice to write a short story before continuing my novel to "gain a sense of accomplishment"…I know what I would like to write about, I am just having trouble planning it out properly. Help?
develop the characters and think of possible situations in which you can place them in. Think of a conflict and how your character would react in certain situations. Just keep thinking of possibilities. Imagine what would happen if you put all your characters in one room. What would the clash result in? Would they get along or would problems occur? There are many things you can do but just keep thinking
