Need help on short story plot ideas?

Posted by admin on November 29th, 2010 and filed under story plot | 1 Comment »

I have to write a 4 page short story that is due this friday and i need some plot ideas. I want it to be futuristic, but not in a sci-fi kind of way. i’ve been reading The Giver, and it did give me some ideas of how i want my story to look like. for example: How the future changes, etc, but in a believable way. Im having a writer’s block..i got the concept, but haven’t gotten any PLOT ideas. Can you help me?

How about, say, a natural disaster happens; a supervolcano, for instance. Yellowstone. Ok, Yellowstone is DUE to erupt anytime soon, and scientists are all trying to figure out what to do, people are being evacuated, and the other countries are full to the brim and are starting to turn away people escaping the volcano.
You should probably follow the plot of a family threatened. Start with family life, and then seeing the plan on TV, beginning to leave the country and work t out from there. Add futuristic stuff at will.

Hope it’s not too late. Is it due Friday the 3rd?
Good luck.

How does this story plot sound?

So this seventeen year old boy whom is mute but very smart but mind set is trapped by his abusive parents they are gone but everyday he feels pain and sleeps in a bathroom all the time like he did when neglected, falls for a seventeen year old girl who is a partied and cares about no one but herself but she feels emotions but hates her abusive bf and is confused why the mute boy refuses to hurt her, does this story plot sound good?

It sounds pretty stupid to me.

Can Anyone Share Stories Of Their Experinces They May Ever Have Had Encountering Well Known Criminal Gangs?

Posted by admin on November 25th, 2010 and filed under stories | 1 Comment »

Are their any individuals, whom in whatever part of the world they live in or have been in, able to share stories of any random run ins they may have had with criminals from any well known "Organized Criminal Gangs" ? Yakuza stories preferably would be of interest to me, as seeing how im planning on visiting Japan next year. But other encounters individuals have had, and their experiences with them would be much appreciated too. Thanks and share, share , share ! Those stories.

I live in a neighborhood that was previously controlled by a prison gang known as La Eme or the Mexican Mafia. A few years ago the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), a Salvadoran gang started moving in to take over the drug sales here. The result has been gunshots, screaming, police helicopters and constant security concerns as these two gangs fight over this tiny little piece of L.A. Also tons of tagging on houses, cars, even trees. Not Yakuza, sorry, but certainly these two gangs present a far greater danger to the US than any Asian gang does.

What kinds of stories strike a chord in your heart?

You know, stories that stay with you for a while and stories that you have trouble forgetting about because they influenced you so much.

It doesn’t have to be a specific story. It could just be a particular theme of genre that really affects you in a good way.

Thank you.

stories which have a strong mental drama, where the main character is struggling between doing right or wrong, or something of that sort. and of course, any story which i strongly identify with influences me

I need help with a story plot that I am writing about Medusa and Perseus?

I am writing a fractured fairytale about this myth but in my story Perseus is blind and therefore can kill Medusa. However, I would not like to reveal this until the end. Can you please help me?

You are going to have to give him some preternatural way to discern his environment. Some way for him to navigate and fight that is unusual but not as effective as sight would be. A comparison would be the Odin’s ravens in Norse Mythology.
Give him something like an item that lets him feel those who have hostile intentions or emotions. Something like that.

Good Luck

POLL: What would be a good plot for a funny story about a band?

Posted by admin on November 16th, 2010 and filed under story plot | 1 Comment »

I usually post funny stories about this band I like on this other website and I am out of ideas. They’re a Goth band. What would be a funny story plot about the band?

BQ: Marilyn Manson, Ozzy Osbourn, or Alice Cooper?

Maybe your penname should be Ebony Dark’ness Demetia Raven Way and your band can be called Bloody Gothic Rose 666.

In fact, just read this fanfic, and you’ll be set: http://myimmortalrehost.webs.com/chapters122.htm

How do you come up with a story plot?

Posted by admin on November 14th, 2010 and filed under story plot | 7 Comments »

How do you come up with a plot for a story? And how do you develop on your plot? May people have different ways of coming up with story ideas I just want to know how you do it?

I go with the basic outline of any story:

Take a likeable man, put him up a tree, throw rocks at the man, and then get him down.

Then I expand:

What makes this man unique? What conflict is he facing? What is he trying to accomplish? What are his motives? How will he reach his goal? What kind of terrible things will prevent him from reaching it? How will he overcome those obstacles? What does he have to give up in order to obtain his goal? How does he change after the ordeal?

Then I fill in the missing parts:

What does the man look like? What is his antagonist like? What motivates each man? How are they connected?

and so on.

All in all, figuring out my main character is the first step, which I do mostly in my head. The hard part is formulating a story and getting it onto paper. But once it’s on paper, I’m set.

How to format short story that jumps from past to present in storyline?

Posted by admin on November 12th, 2010 and filed under short story | 1 Comment »

In a short story I’m writing, I jump from present time to past in the storyline. Is it fine that I separate these events with stars ( *** ) between paragraphs or is there another way to do this?

In the past, I have used the asterisks/stars, but another option is saying something like "on another track" or something similar to that. I always thought that was an interesting way to connect different parts of a story.
