I always get to a point, usually within the first five chapters, I find that what I am writing is absolutely terrible and I give up on that story. I know writers are their own toughest critics but my inner editor is so strict I can never finish a rough draft, I rarely even get half way through.
Have you tried doing an outline before you begin to write? Draw up a chapter by chapter outline – just a couple of lines for each chapter stating, roughly, what is going to happen in that chapter. If you get stuck on one chapter, hop to another and work from there. Then go back later to where you were stuck and have another go at it.
