When even the NYSlime posts a story mocking Obama, is he done already?

Yesterday, President Obama ordered his cabinet to identify $100 million in budget cuts. The CBS Evening News reported that "critics say the amounts are so small," that "it’s nothing more than a publicity stunt." CBS added that the President "admitted $100 million is a drop in the budget bucket, but insisted there’s a lot more cutting to come." The New York Times says "budget analysts promptly burst out laughing.

The NY Slimes is smart for criticizing Obama when necessary. I think over the last few months, they’ve realized that continually riding the Obama band wagon is just a ride to their paper going bankrupt. I stopped getting their paper back last year when every day it was just "Obama is great, Obama, Obama"…..all one sided.

Added: Yeah then there’s "Ed" there with his post. "We won, you lost". That’s right Ed, no oppinion about anything, no discussion about how this country is being radically changed it’s just all "We won, you lost". What a drone.

Google books has electronic copies of certain materials, including A Woman of Letters by Phyllis Rose–which is a great source of information about V. Woolf, including anecdotal history that ties directly to your question. I would have posted the link here, but it was very, very long. Instead, I just posted the link for Google books. Good luck with your essay.

Where can I post my short stories and short screenplays online for free?

I hope it is easy to use and other writers can criticize my work.
I hope it protects its users.

If you like to write with others, check out my favorite writing site: http://StoryMash.com

It’s collaborative fiction that also pays for every chapter you publish. You can start your own, or publish new chapters to continue stories written by others. The pay isn’t a lot unless you already have a large audience, but the best part is the feedback from other very talented writers. Also, some of the stories are very entertaining!

How does the Hindu creation story concepts relate to modern day concepts?

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2010 and filed under story | 1 Comment »

I have to do a paper on the Hindu creation stories concepts that relate to modern day. Also I need to use some symbols from the story like the Caste System and the Egg and how relate to today. Do you how they relate?

There are several creation stories in Hinduism. Hinduism believes there are times when the universe takes form and and as many times when it dissolves back into nothing. The in-between times are known as the days and nights of Brahma. Here are three Hindu creation stories, enjoy.

OM:
Before time began there was no heaven, no earth and no space between. A vast dark ocean washed upon the shores of nothingness and licked the edges of night. A giant cobra floated on the waters. Asleep within its endless coils lay the Lord Vishnu. He was watched over by the mighty serpent. Everything was so peaceful and silent that Vishnu slept undisturbed by dreams or motion.

VISHNU:
From the depths a humming sound began to tremble, Om. It grew and spread, filling the emptiness and throbbing with energy. The night had ended. Vishnu awoke. As the dawn began to break, from Vishnu’s navel grew a magnificent lotus flower. In the middle of the blossom sat Vishnu’s servant, Brahma. He awaited the Lord’s command.

Vishnu spoke to his servant: ‘It is time to begin.’ Brahma bowed. Vishnu commanded: ‘Create the world.’

BRAHMA, THE GOD OF CREATION:
A wind swept up the waters. Vishnu and the serpent vanished. Brahma remained in the lotus flower, floating and tossing on the sea. He lifted up his arms and calmed the wind and the ocean. Then Brahma split the lotus flower into three. He stretched one part into the heavens. He made another part into the earth. With the third part of the flower he created the skies.

The earth was bare. Brahma set to work. He created grass, flowers, trees and plants of all kinds. To these he gave feeling. Next he created the animals and the insects to live on the land. He made birds to fly in the air and many fish to swim in the sea. To all these creatures, he gave the senses of touch and smell. He gave them power to see, hear and move.

The world was soon bristling with life and the air was filled with the sounds of Brahma’s creation.

Godspeed.

I don’t need a story i just need an idea to work with. Thaks!!!!:)

Perhaps something about a troll, or a really annoying girl who likes to make the kids in her school suffer. :D

Do you read your kids a bedtime story?

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2010 and filed under kids story | 42 Comments »

I try but they end up mucking about and being silly so I give up! Wish they would sit and listen, I love quality time with my kids. Their not babies for long are they.
My daughter, who is 9, reads for herself but its my 2 boys, 6 and 3 that muck about!! Bless them, we do try and sometimes it works but hey, they are just kids!!!!

i used to read to them before they could read themselves, now i listen to them read. Its good practice for them. Try getting them to read a book to you, it doesn’t matter if they are too young to read, just find a book with good pictures and discuss it with them.

Are there any good novel/story books out there about Time Travel?

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2010 and filed under story books | 7 Comments »

I’ve been reading the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. It’s about a woman who accidentally time traveled and ended up in the 1700’s. What do you recommend? Thanks!

The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. It’s a love story set in the 20th century and the female character’s name is Clare (spelled differently, but interesting, no?)
This novel is being turned into a movie starring Rachel McAdams from "The Notebook" and Eric Bana from "Troy " . This is a very touching novel.

Also, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine M’Engle is a classic.

How can i write a successful short story by using the themes of obsession and love?

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2010 and filed under short story | 7 Comments »

I have a homework/coursework task to write a short story for creative writing. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas/suggestions that i could work around? Bearing in mind it has to be at AS level. Thank you.

Personally, I wouldn’t go for ideas using creepy psycho stalker types as this is the first thing that springs to mind when you hear the words ‘obsession’ and ‘love’. Always try to avoid the obvious when you are writing fiction. Or if you do use cliches, try to subvert them in some way to keep the reader interested.

Try playing around with the themes as this will help to give you ideas. What things could people be obsessed about? What types of love are there? The obsession doesn’t have to be about a particular person, and love doesn’t have to mean romantic love.

For example, you could do a story about someone with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and how this is ruining their life. The OCD-sufferer could have a number of compulsions, e.g. a fear of stepping on cracks on the pavement, and is convinced that if they do not perform all of these rituals correctly, something awful will happen to their loved ones. You could show what really does happen when the person fails to perform their compulsive tasks. Is it all just in their head, or does something sinister happen…?

Just an idea! :)
