Is there a place or forum on the web that allows you to post your stories and have critics read them?

Basically as the question states. I write blurbs, short stories, social commentary, but I am not a trained writer, and still not quite confident in my ability as a writer. I would like a place where I could get feedback (positive or negative) and general advice on the craft of writing. Anyone know of a place online where this happens?

How long do short stories need to be?

How long do short stories need to be? I am going to write a short story with merfolk and humans.

First of all – start talking like an author. We never refer to work in terms of pages but in terms of words. A short story can be two words. There are two word short story contests. Also 100 word and 500 word contests. Once you start getting up in the 10 thousand word neighborhood, you are going to find anthologies and magazines won’t accept you. 12,000 is about max for an anthology or magazine – by the time you hit 15 thousand words, you are approaching novella length. The way to figure page numbers is to divide the number of words by 250.

They’re, Their, There – Three Different Words.

Careful or you may wind up in my next novel.

I’m looking for a free site that helps promote my novels and short stories.

Maybe Fanfiction.net . It has lots of genres including original fiction.

What is the story behind pierrot and harlequin?

Posted by admin on December 29th, 2009 and filed under story | 1 Comment »

Forgive me for my spelling, please.
i was reading a book and they made a somewhat vague reference to Pierrot and Harlequin, and I tried looking up their story but i couldn’t find anything.
I know that Pierrot was a melancholy and innocent character, and Harlequin was a tricky acrobat, but what is the relation between the two characters?
what stories are they from, and is there any more information you can give me on them?
Thank you!

Pierrot and Harlequin are two of the three characters involved in a love triangle in traditional commedia dell’Arte, popular in the 16th through the 18th centuries. In most versions of the story, Pierrot is the lovestruck naive partner of Columbine (the third character in this triangle). Harlequin is also in love with Columbine, and usually the two of them end up deceiving Pierrot.

The opera, I Pagliacci, by Leoncavallo contains the Columbine-Pierrot-Harlequin story presented as a play within a play. Remember the stereo-typical tenor aria showing the clown in the white costume with big black fuzzy buttons and white ruffled color? That’s Pierrot.

What kinds of stories would you like to see more often in the newspapers?

What do you feel gets overlooked? Are there stories or story categories you should make the news but don’t? I am in college to become a reporter, so I want to know what people think.

I want to see more stories about acts of compassion…people helping people for no reason or reward at all, just because they are driven to do it. I want to see more stories about the
education system in the USA, stories about children and the effects of poverty and stories about hunger in the USA.

What’s a good thriller story plot about the future world?

Story will include robots, bar codes on the back of your neck, and various other technological devices. I just need a plot to base the story on.

You ‘just need a plot’? Does that mean that the rest of the story is complete, EXCEPT for the plot? You’re a writer, and you want US to supply YOU with a plot, is that right? Holy crap…

How long does it take to create an amine story book?

I would like to know the complete process on how long it takes once you get an idea for a story to the completed chapter book.

It takes a professional mangaka (artist who makes manga, which is what I think you’re asking) about 1 week to draw and ink a single chapter, and usually 5 or 6 chapters go into a book… so if your time was dedicated, a month+ ? More realistically, 2-3 months I would say, unless you’re planning on foregoing the inking and whatnot.

What is the name of a short story about a roach that is found in a peach?

I read a short story years ago about a little girl who is spending a day with her father and finds a roach (or some other type of insect) in a piece of fruit, possibly a peach. She is told by the father that the insect has a name, and the father tells her to treat the insect kindly. The name of the story is the name the man gives the insect, I think, and I seem to remember it was originally French. Has anyone heard of this story?

no, but have you tried amazon.com
